Bradford Civic Society is a partner in the Bradford Heritage Action Zone (HAZ), led by Bradford Council and Historic England. The Bradford HAZ is a £4million scheme which will fund improvements to buildings and shopfronts within part of Bradford’s city centre conservation area. It also includes cultural activities, such as heritage walks, art installations, and other events.
The HAZ board meets quarterly to track the progress of the project team, and has most recently met in January 2026. Key milestones so far include the launch of a new website with more details of the scheme, and opening of the ‘Expressions of Interest’ phase for tenants or building owners interested in applying for funds. The current priority area is Ivegate, where improvements to shopfronts and the general environment are current being looked at. The Civic Society has also been engaged with local young people, who recently presented ideas of cultural projects for the area.
Bradford Civic Society will be hosting a presentation for members in March 2026, details of which will be sent by email.
