Bradford Civic Society has submitted representations as part of the planning application for phase one of the City Village regeneration scheme — which could eventually see up to 1000 new homes created in Central Bradford.
The application for phase one is focussed primarily on the site of the former Oastler Market (which closed in Autumn 2025) and includes the creation of new townhouses and public spaces. While broadly supportive of the scheme, Bradford Civic Society’s architectural adviser has expressed serious concerns about the amount of surface car parking currently planned for the site. The Society’s adviser believes there should be a significant reduction, owing to its city centre location and environmental ambitions. Bradford Civic Society also expressed concerns about some of the materials and scaling.
A decision on this first phase is due in early 2026. A further application on the next phase, which will include the demolition of the Kirkgate Centre, is expected to be lodged later this year.
