Member information

Bradford Civic Society is a registered charity, and has traditionally relied on members, volunteers and donations to stand up for Bradford.

We exist to preserve and celebrate our city’s heritage and built environment, while encouraging better design and architecture in contemporary and future development.

Membership 

Like many small voluntary organisations, the inability to host regular events during Covid-19 had an impact on Bradford Civic Society, and has caused us to reflect on our membership model. The current Executive Committee (the small team that makes decisions on behalf of the Society in line with its charitable aims) has been meeting to discuss how to reshape parts of Bradford Civic Society to make it more relevant to modern Bradford. It also still considers ad hoc Blue Plaque applications.

The Civic Society’s Place Panel (the group of designers, architects, and other practitioners) continue to meet informally to discuss planning and development matters affecting Bradford, and offer public comment where appropriate.

Governance and Data Protection 

Decisions are made by a small elected Executive Team made up of a Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary, and Membership Officer. Some officer roles are currently vacant, with recruitment underway ahead of the next AGM. Our Place Panel deals with planning and design matters.

Bradford Civic Society was founded in 1942, but relaunched with a new constitution in 2006. You can read our current constitution here.
