As part of our occasional Notes from the City series, Oliver Denton shares a poem he’s written about the city of Bradford.
Look across and see Lister’s Mill upon whose chimney soars as high as the bird does fly,
See the size and majesty of Conditioning House which shows wool was king in days gone by,
Into the city and see the beauty and splendour of the Wool Exchange that catches the eye,
Gaze up to an icon of the Brutalist era, High Point, to some it does horrify,
Look up at City Hall and see all the Kings and Queens look down from upon high,
Walk up Piece Hall Yard to the Bradford Club an oasis of peace I can testify,
Stroll in to St. George’s Hall a marvel of the city in which we can all glorify,
Let all buildings past, present and future show that Bradford is a great city in which we can all unify
Bradford Civic Society provides a platform for all Bradfordians to share their thoughts or feelings about all aspects of Bradford life. If you’d like to write our next Notes from the City blog, get in touch.
